City of Calgary 2020 Accessibility Awards

We are excited to celebrate that Andrea van Vugt, president and founder of the Disability Pride Alberta Foundation, was recognized at the the 2020 City of Calgary Accessibility Awards

Mayor Nenshi presented Andrea with the Advocacy Award, which recognizes an individual or group of people who have improved the quality of life for persons with disabilities and are progressing accessible opportunities in Calgary.

Two other outstanding organizations were recognized at this year’s Accessibility Awards. 

Pinnovate DIY Studio received the Universal Design/Access Recognition Award, which acknowledges how an individual or group – through the use of universal design principles – has improved access for persons with disabilities in Calgary. This award covers improved access to the physical environment, technology, or products.

Pinnovate is an accessible art studio that offers a one of a kind experience for their guests. Check out their cool splatter paint room!

Wil and Kathy Garth from DREAMS Transportation received the Transportation Opportunities Award which celebrates an individual or group that emphasizes making transportation more inclusive in our community. This award was created in memory of Ella Anderson, who served on the Advisory Committee on Accessibility with grace, style and commitment to people with disabilities.

DREAMS Transportation provides safe, courteous, and personalized door-to-door service to get you to and from your destination.
